Kitsap Humane Society is a non-profit charitable organization that has been caring for animals in need since 1908. Our vision is that every adoptable companion animal has a home. We work toward that goal daily through the immediate care and sheltering of thousands of companion animals that are homeless, lost and in need of advocate.

Ruby is my first rescue and she'll have been with me for three years just a week before Petswalk.  She has her own facebook page at:  https://www.facebook.com/ruby.fleischbein.  She came with a history of abuse, was fearful, and was less than half her current weight.  She would have nothing to do with my dad for over 10 months and now he's her best friend.  She would ankle-bark at any man and now she lets those that know her pet her and will give new ones a chance.  While she wasn't adopted from KHS she is a rescue and a shelter in Yakima saved her life.  A rescue in Snoqualmie made sure I noticed her on Petfinder.org and then adopted her.  She knows a good rescue story when she hears one and although she's not always keen on her brother, she knows he, Kris Kringle, has a good one. 

Kris, as he goes by except in the months of November/December/January, was pulled out of an unmanned shelter in Prosser because he wasn't doing well.  The rescue gave him this name because he was rescued a week or so before Christmas; someone called to yell at the rescue for giving him this name, and that, of course, wasn't really the point.  I was merely to be his transport from the home of the lady that had rescued in and lived in Prosser to his foster home in Bremerton.  Funny thing, traveling in the car for 5 hours together, him terrified out of his mind:  He bonded with me and wasn't going to leave so he ended being "fostered" by me.  That ended badly -- the handwriting was really on the wall before it started -- and he's since been adopted and is another member of the family.  He's terrified of everything, probably has had little experience with other people or things.  I know how to deal with that and know it just takes time and experience.  This one's going to take a little longer, though, I suspect.

They have two sister cats, Iris and Lilly, who also came from a rescue, and their lives have been significantly changed since the introduction of the dogs.  All I can say is that they now get some exercise they wouldn't if they weren't here.  I try to make up for that when I can. 

While none of these guys had the great experience of coming to me through the Kitsap Humane Society, they know how important it is for our little shelter to be able to provide that opportunity for rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming.  They and I ask you come on out and support them with us!
