Dear Ruby's Friends!
Please join our team for this year's Petswalk to help support the Kitsap Humane Society!
I've always had cats but almost two years ago I decided that maybe a dog was what I needed.
I had just opened my own solo practice and was staying very late in the office and not getting much exericse. I was sitting in a CLE one day in Vancouver and came across Ruby's picture on Petfinder.org;
she was with a rescue in Snoqualmie. For me, it was love at first sight and I made 2 trips to Snoqualmie before finally bringing her home. Once home, and without the security of the "pack" of other rescue dogs she had been with, I found a scared little one that had obviously suffered some abuse in her past and weighed about 7 pounds less than she does now.
It took us many months to get over the separation anxiety and other issues associated with Ruby's past but I'm happy to say we're pretty much smooth sailing now, except for an occasional sudden move startle or what I call her PTSD days where she just wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and thinks everyone hates her. (Of course, we all have those days, too.)
I had tried to find the right small dog at the Kitsap Humane Society before adopting Ruby but couldn't and have always struggled with that because of my service to and love of the organization and the goals we have. I'm happy to say we have all kinds of dogs and Ruby and I have made it our mission to help all of them find a home!
