Julie Hammer's Story
I've always been an animal lover. It seems obvious that I would use my time to volunteer with animals, but I had no idea what an impact the Kitsap Humane Society would have on me. Each visit to KHS allowed me to learn not only about the animals there, but also about the people who work tirelessly to achieve the shelter's mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Kitsap County's homeless pets. The staff and dedicated volunteers show a level of commitment to the animals that is truly a reflection of their devotion to such a worthy cause. I enjoyed helping there so much that I accepted a position as a staff member last summer as the Humane Education Coordinator. It combined my two loves: education and animals. It was a perfect fit and I could continue to contribute to the mission in my new job.
Since then there have been many changes within the organization including my position, but the mission has never changed. We still work to care for the daily needs of animals, educate the public, rescue animals in need, and help animals find their forever homes. We may be "the little shelter that could," but we can't do it without the help of the community, both near and far. Your financial contributions to PetsWALK and KHS will help our staff and volunteers achieve our goals. Thank you for supporting Kitsap's homeless pets and those who love them each and every day.
